Paul Nienhiser Second with Sprint Invaders in Eldon, IA

PETERSEN MEDIA: Joining forces with Scott Bonar in 2022, Thursday night saw Paul Nienhiser hop in Bonar’s Midland Performance backed No. 50 machine and promptly pick up a second-place finish in Eldon, IA with the Sprint Invaders.

“Eldon, IA is a big half mile, and not really something I run on often so naturally I wasn’t sure how things would go when we pulled in,” Paul Nienhiser said. “Scott and I have been really good together over the years, so I figured we’d be okay and wed kind of exceeded my own expectations.”

After a good practice session, the Chapin, IL driver lined the Midland Performance/Kinney Racing Engines/Rockstar Wraps No. 50 up on the front row of his heat race.

Getting the lead in turns one and two, Nienhiser set sail and race his way to the win which then moved him into the Dash. Lining up fourth in the Dash, the front row got together at the drop of the green and luckily Nienhiser avoided contact before racing to a second-place finish.

The redraw based off the Dash finish then put Nienhiser in the third row for the feature event. Moving around the ½ mile speedway, Nienhiser laid down some strong laps as he began working his way forward.

Working the bottom in turns one and two and hammering the cushion in turns three and four, Nienhiser would race his way up to second by the time a late caution flew with just four laps left in the race.

Needing to nail his restart, a slight stumble with his engine let the leader get away from Nienhiser and he would be unable to build up enough momentum to make a run at the lead in the final circuits.

With the checkered flag displayed, Nienhiser capped the night off with a second-place finish.

“To have a shot at the win late in the race was by far more than I could have hoped for without actually getting the win,” Nienhiser said. “To run that well at an unfamiliar track is a huge confidence and momentum booster for us as he get back on some familiar soil this weekend.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Lubricants, Buffalo Wild Wings, Innovative Design, Mason Sound, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Signature Signs & Design, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, American Rental Center, Fierce Herbicide, Guse’s Pub & Eatery, Wessler Bros Agency, Willhite Mowing, T&K Tree Services, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Midland Performance, Simpson Race Products, Smith Titanium, and Premier Powder Coating for their continued support.

Nienhiser would also like to thank Midland Performance, Kinney Racing Engines, Rockstar Wraps, Heartland Trailer Manufacturing, Robert’s Tire Center, and Stronghurst Collision for their support of the No. 50 car.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-8, Wins-0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-5
